: : I keep seeing BOUTIQUE literary agency. What does that mean?

: It only means they are small. They don't want to say they are small, so they say they are a "boutique" agency. Some of them specialize, which keeps them small.

Some of them are one-agent agencies. Be careful. The worst thing that could happen to an author is to get tied up with an agent that doesn't have the "insider" contacts to sell your book. Once you sign that contract, you are stuck. An agent without good contacts might try to get publishers attention with your book. You will become associated with that agent and your book could become an "already-looked-at-that-one book. Best solution is to look very carefully at their track record.
