Thank goodness for the internet. If an agent has had any success at all there will be lots of information about them on the internet, both good and bad. Do your research.

: The main thing to watch out for is fees OF ANY KIND. Real agents make their living by selling books to publishers and taking a commission for doing it, not by charging authors up-front fees.
