: Lydia Davis's new book of short stories is a finalist for the national book award (Varieties of Disturbance). Hard to believe a writer of experimental fiction can get the attention of anybody besides us. (Who is us? Why, the 21st century internet breed of fiction writers, of course.) Her new book even got published by a semi-mainstream publisher (FSG). What, the internet isn't enough for experimental fiction anymore? Must be that MacArthur Fellowship she won. It must have gone to her head.

: Seriously though, she's a great writer and deserves that kind of recognition. If you haven't read her, you are in for a treat. Check her out.

Agreed, a good writer, but a book of short stories never wins. At least not very often. Not since 96 (Andrea Barrett).
