I highly recommend Roland Menge's book, Against the War. The issues and characters resonate with my own experiences at that time. The men and women in the novel react to the political climate of the time in markedly different ways and the author tells each of their personal stories with empathy and insight. Great pains were taken to make the novel historically correct as the extensive bibliography shows. It is intriguing to look back at this era with that factual information about the myriad of events that gave rise to the counterculture in the late '60's and early 70's. As the novel unfolds, each character matures and reacts to the politics, the war and the social changes of the time in his or her personal way. The end result is an engaging, well told story.
