After reading the novel, I agree and recommend the same for you. It's "The Invincibles" by E C Heber. To sum up, it's a real novel with plot lines, character development and all that official writer gadgets, but the most important is that it's funny, whatever happens. This is how I like it.
(Amazon shows still the black cover of the first edition, so don't be surprised, like me, to get the white cover of the second edition!)
