His book was recently discussed on CSPAN2 book TV. Wallison is a left-over anti-regulation guy from the Reagan administration. After all these years, he's still trying to say government is the problem. To him, the solution is still good old Republican deregulation (which is, of course, what got us into trouble in the first place). In fact, many point to Reagan's dramatic increase in the size of government as the factor that led to the vast runup in national debt and the resulting bad economic consequences. They say the deregulation policies set into motion by the Reagan administration and fostered by subsequent Republican administrations is what led to the runaway "greed is good" attitude on Wall Street (which is, of course, the underlying cause of the cycles of economic bubbles and meltdowns we have been seeing over the past few decades). Wallison and his greedy banker friends (naturally) say that what we need is less regulation, when in fact we need a lot more regulation if we are ever to rein them in.
