: Anybody read Anand Gopal's new book, “No Good Men Among the Living”? He's a reporter and the book is about the US war in Afghanistan, but it's written from the point of view of the Afghan people he met there. I saw him on CSPAN's book TV, and it sounds like he really knows what went on when the US invaded Afghanistan.

It's a chilling book. Not easy to read, embarrassing for us Americans, actually. It describes how the US military used bribe money to buy favoritism among Afghan warlords, and how the CIA tortured innocent people to get information. It says it was (and still is) a phoney war created to take the heat off of Bush after 9-11. It describes how the US completely destroyed the social structure of the country and created a civil war among competing warlords that will probably never end.
