: Here's something that somebody should write a book about. In every new movie made these days, in every close-up, the character is "required" to be smoking a cigarette (even though it is obvious that the character doesn't know how to smoke). We have been keeping track for years, and have yet to see a single movie without people smoking cigarettes. What kind of payoff are the movie makers getting from the cigarette companies?

I've noticed that too. It does seem like that in every close-up the actor is smoking. It's actually funny, because, like Bill Clinton, they don't inhale (as expensive as cigarettes are now, no real smoker would waste the smoke that way). The cigarette companies are definitely paying the movie makers to show heroic people smoking cigarettes. Got to get them impressionable kids to start smoking young (before they have any sense of the danger).
