Exactly! That is the paradox I was talking about earlier. After all, this is the Republican primary, not the general election. They are voting for Trump because they are against "the establishment," and in this GOP primary election, the establishment is the other mainstream Republicans. Trump's success is repudiating the mainstream Republican approach to governing (i.e. not-governing) and they don't like what it is implying about them. They don't like it one bit, so they just call him "a liberal" in order to take the focus away from themselves and their well-established track record.
