: The best book on the 2016 presidential election (by far) is "From Washington and Adams to Trump and Hillary." It not only describes the 2016 presidential election (in detail) but goes through ALL the prior presidential elections to show how we got here. Taught me a lot about how and why the Electoral College was created and how we got into this mess. Highly recommended reading!

Just finished it. It is the best book on the 2016 election. Actually, it's like three different books in one. The first part is about how the electoral college got started (mostly about how the slave owners didn't want the people to have the chance elect a president who would outlaw slavery). The second part is about every presidential election and how the decision to create the weird electoral college changed the process of electing a president from then on. The third part is about the presidential election of 2016. It is presented to the reader as if by a reporter describing who did what and who said what, day by day. It reminds us of what a weird person Trump is and all the crazy things he said during the campaign. You're left understanding the crazy dynamics that somehow got him elected (with the help of the crazy electoral college). All in all, a truly great book.
