Guns should be registered by known people, along with their purpose for buying the gun. Many of the people who are against gun restrictions of any kind don't want "the government" to know they have a gun because they are afraid "the government" will come and take it away from them. This is nonsense. If you have a shotgun, you should be required to register it and reveal that you plan to use it for hunting. But if you try to buy an AR-15, the branch of "the government" that should be notified is the police. They have the right to know why you want to own a weapon of war. The fact is there is no legitimate reason for owing a weapon of war except for killing a lot of people quickly, or at least fantasizing about that. Machine guns are illegal to own. Why aren't AR-15 type guns also illegal to own?
