Interesting point. You could have also mentioned the many new movies based on comic books. Not so long ago no adult paid any attention to comic books - just for kids. These days, it seems like fantasy sells even to adults. Is it because life is hard so people want to escape?
: Somebody ought to write a book about the growth of what I call the childish fantasy entertainment market. First it was a huge number of adults admitting they were reading the meant-for-children Harry Potter books, and now the most popular books on the NYT bestseller list and the most popular movies (ever) are teenage fantasies about having sex with handsome vampires. What's that all about? Did they put something in the water that is making us all regress to childhood?
