You think the Santa Barbara writing conference is expensive, how about the Taos Summer Writing Conference (in July)? They have a baffling variety of fees that go up to 1500 bucks (I guess it inludes a weeklong writing class). Extra fees if you want someone to read your novel (and maybe that's why most writers are willing to pay so much to go to them). Anybody have experience with that? Like, does it do any good to talk to an agent at these conferences?
