Very interesting facts about the side pains. I have always believed and relayed the technique of "resetting" your breathing. On a more intangible note, I employ visualization. I describe it to fellow runners as "picture the oxygen going directly to the area of pain". It has no factual basis, but does match with the advice of controlling one's breathing as cure,(and there is so much mind/body disconnection during a run). eric in LA.
