i don't know about breathing, but a good way to run is in bursts. [fartlek, is what it's called] during your run, make landmarks-a bend in your route, a competitor, a lampost, etc. Jog slowly to one, then sprint to the next. Jog slow, sprint. make sure your jogging period allows you to get your breathing back to normal.
